Mother Theresa

Varanasi - India

Sita

Together With Orphins

I worked as a volunteer in an orphanage run by the Sisters of Charity founded by Mother Theresa. Out of 25 toddlers and babies, only two were boys. The children were well fed, cleaned and loved. The developmental stimulation was poor and many have emotional traumas, which seem to greatly impact their development. There is a lot to do and the sisters are very welcoming for anyone interested in such work. Those kids know how to return favors in their own beautiful and simple ways.

The Gang

For me Mother Theresa is a symbol of compassion: An open heart naturally responding to suffering. When we really feel our interconnectedness, we respond in the same way as a hand reaches to our own hurt foot.

The following quotes are from the book: Mr. God, This Is Anna, which relate the thoughts and reflections of a young girl (5-8years old) on God:

Muni playing at being big

Why Not

* * *
“God might have made a big mirror, Perhaps we’re on the other side, Perhaps we’re the wrong way around. Yeah that’s why we get it all wrong.”

* * *
“Mister God can know things and people from the inside too. We only know them from the outside, don’t we?”

Gudu

Connecting

* * *
“Those eyes just sort of wrapped you up, Those eyes were full up with good things, When she smiled, they just poured all over you.”

Gudu is the only boy who walks and talks. He loves to eat crayons.

* * *
“My reason for preferring the darkness is that in the dark you have to describe yourself. In the daylight other people describe you.”

Tiku was born with Spinae Bifida. Doctors gave her a few months to live. She is now around five years of age.

Fragile

* * *
When the sun shines, it shines without any discrimination.

Malti

Belonging

N’aies jamais peur.”

Malti est belle et tres talentueuse. Un jour elle comprendra.

* * *
“Never let anyone rob you of your right to be complete. The daylight is for the brain and the senses; the darkness if for the heart and the wits. Never, never be afraid.”

Malti is pretty and smart. On day she'll understand.

Francis Cabrel

* * *
“Love is everywhere you look no matter what you do, in the smaller corners, in the simplest dreams you visit, love as if it was pouring through everything…” Francis Cabrel

Raja le Maharaja

Even When Separate

* * *
One of the orphans, Raja, was found left alone in the jungle tied up to a tree when he was two. He is now four and shows signs of autism. We are teaching him to walk. He’s a real Maharaja: he loves to eat, sit and watch life “running by” from his throne.

Sita

* * *
Sita has contracted Tuberculosis. Her mother died and her father couldn’t afford the medical assistance she needed. She lost some mobility in her arms and must remain in isolation for a few more months. She is so proud to be learning how to read and write. Unfortunately, the father has moved and didn’t leave his new address. The sisters have not been able to relocate him. Sita would cost him a dowry… She’ll probably have to live with the Sisters of Charity for many years to come.
