Les Pinguoins

South Africa

African Penguin

Also called the Jackass Penguin, the African Penguins is very cute and the desire is strong to hug one, but watch out. It is when they appear to want to cuddle, while looking you right in the eyes, that they are preparing their attack. (Imagine reading this with Mission Impossible’s sound track on.)

Penguins' wink

Just when they start winking as in the photo above, you know its time to go. Fast!

L'Entraide

Finally, she/he went get help with her partner. They live in pairs and are part of population of 726 pairs of penguins living at Boulder Beach, near the end of the most southern African, piece of land. Partly due to a reduction in commercial fishing, the low amount of predators and the presence of bushes that protects their eggs from the hot burning sun, the colony has increased from one couple in 1983 to its 726 pairs in 1997.

Retiring from their war to our camera, we won the battle I suppose. We didn’t win much beside a weird feeling that we had violated their privacy. Apology to all the world’s penguins.
