Parliament of World's Religions

Cape Town , Western Cape - South Africa

The 1999 Parliament of the World's Religions took place in Cape Town, 1 - 8 December. We found out about this shortly after arriving in town. I called up to volunteer and was soon asked to produce their web site, which I did.

Helene worked for several weeks helping organize the presentations before the Parliament started.

During the Parliament Helene and I took 10 days off from our jobs and put in many hours. It was really hectic for me because I attended as much as I could during the day and then created web pages to document the day's events when I got home at night.

It was a wonderful experience. There were Taoists, Hindus, Zoroastrians, Muslims, Buddhists, Christians, Jews, Wiccans and members of Indigenous Traditions.

There were over 800 presentations in the form of lectures, workshops, symposia, music and dance. Nelson Mandela and the Dalai Lama also addressed the assembly.

I produced a fantastic Daily Coverage journal that captures many of the events.
