Spirit in Art Galley
Organiser of the exhibition Esther Rousso has managed to transform a drab basement into an enormous, light, serene and spiritually uplifting venue, including the work of 25 groups, representing approximately 50 individual artists.
What guided Rousso in her conceptualization of the exhibition was the notion of Africa welcoming the world.
At the beginning of October, Rousso began the process of bringing together the work of artists from different cultures and religions. Her brief to artists was to “think big”.
“It is one thing for an artist to work individually on pieces, but quite another to bring artists together in one venue so that they all feel comfortable”, she said. “Everything is part of a large design. The exhibition is more than the sum of its parts.”
Dr. Hagitte Gal’ed, one of the exhibiting artists, agrees that the experience has been “quite incredible”, and that Rousso has a real understanding for the needs of individual displays.
The exhibition has been a great success. Rousso believes that creative energy is unleashed by spirituality. The gallery embodies the spirit of harmony and the connectedness of artists. Art is a natural conduit for bringing people together.
“This has been the most fantastic experience”, says Rousso.
