Another welcomed 3 day weekend this Friday. I woke up rather late to a barrage of phone calls inquiring about the weekends trip to Kanchanoburi. The plan was to get about 50 people and party down on one of the river disco barges. It ended up being 12 people getting down on a rather large disco boat. Cool none the less. The party boats are well equipped with a large set of speakers facing the dance floor which holds about 40 people. There is another boat that is designated for sleeping, which is attached to the disco barge. Thai style sleeping arrangements involve mats and light blankets. The two story boat allows sleeping on several levels.
The 12 of us had a good time with our cross cultural interactions. 4 of the girls are rather traditional and don't speak English too well. The rest are farang style farang. The evening was a mix of Thai styles with farang attitudes. We danced, drank and got up to some antics aboard the ss party barge..
I hooked my laptop up to the stereo system and played my internet downloaded MP3 files. The house DJ's got a kick out of the computer system and for some reason thought to ask me to see some pictures. I took this to mean pictures of women, so I gave them a small slide show of my Asian women collection. The seemed quite tickled by the novelty of the laptop. There sound sytem consisted of an antiquated mixer and two tape decks, so the MP3 concept was quite new. I'm sure in the future, I wont need a laptop to play MP3 files--a simple portable will do.
