Jason on his new board
|
The Unknown
To pick up where Jason left off.... unfortunately, we were given some frustrating news on Thursday night. It appears as though we are only GUARANTEED work here at Balmer's for one month. Although we are more than happy to scrubb, mop and cook around here, chances are that we will have to move on after the 15th of January. NO worries though! Taking matters into our own hands, Jason and I hopped on a train the very next morning to Grindelwald - a ski resort town just outside of Interlaken - to seek mnore definite employment opportunities. The town was beautiful and it was the first day of snowfall in weeks. A breathtaking landscape accompanied by an invitation for coffee and cake by one hotel owner did not make for a stressful job hunt. Nonetheless, we were turned away from most hotels. Having an EU passport or a working knowledge of German would help - such minor technicalities! In any event we are keeping our fingers crossed that a place up in the white mountains will hire us - so pray for us from abroad. It is just the beginning of the season so hopefully luck will be on our side. But, until then............ we plan on taking full advantage of our free time and the fresh white powder - snow. As you can see from the photo... Jason is a pro. Just kidding. However, tomorrow we both will be. Bright and early Sunday morning (after Jason works the graveyard shift here at Balmer"s) we head off into the mountains for our first snowboarding lesson. The board itself is bigger than me and I am sure I will look ridiculous, but we promise to take pictures for you all - something NOBODY will want to miss!
So here it goes.......... work or play, we are enjoying life and taking it as it comes.
