The local lineage of Islam is Sunni, with a strong Sufi influence. Sufism is perhaps the most tolerant and non-exclusive school of Islam. Sufi mystics hold that as disciples from any faith draw closer to the true essence of divinity, religious difference become irrelevant.

L’Islam Uzbek est profondement influence par le Sufisme. Cette ecole de l’Islam est sans aucun doute la plus tolerante de toutes. Les mystiques Sufistes croient en la possibilite pour les humains de sentir la presence divine. Lorsque nous sommes en presence du divin, les differences entre les religions disparaissent.

Just east of Bukara is the birthplace and tomb of Bakhautdin Naqshband, founder of the most influential school of Sufism in Central Asia.

La tombe de Bakhautdin Naqshband, le fondateur de la plus importante ecole de Sufisme en Asie-Centrale.








People here are proud to be Moslem but seem tolerant of different religions. Women are not required to wear a scarf or veil and religions seems more low key, like in the west.

Pour un pays musulman, la tolerance reigne. Les femmes ne portent pas le voile et la religion reste en arriere plan.

There has been some infiltration of Militant Islam from Afghanistan and the government has responded with brutality and suppression of even moderate Moslem views.

Il semble toutefois que dans certaines regions il y ait infiltration d’un militantisme islamique d’origne Afghane. Karimov, en bon ex-sovietique y a repondu par des repression brutales.
