New Jersey 3, NY Rangers 2
EAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey (Ticker) -- Vadim Sharifijanov, Randy McKay and Petr Sykora scored first-period goals as the New Jersey Devils continued their mastery of the New York Rangers with a 3-2 victory. Martin Brodeur faced just 13 shots but stopped the Rangers' best attempt to tie the game, turning aside Petr Nedved's wrist shot from just inside the left faceoff circle with 4:40 to go.
The Devils improved to 11-0-4 in their last 15 regular-season meetings with their cross-river rivals and are 9-0-2 in their last 11 home games overall. The team record for longest home unbeaten stretch is 15 games, set between January 8-March 15, 1997. "We had a lot of opportunities for shots but just kept missing the net," Rangers coach John Muckler said. "You can't win in any league if you don't get shots, it's frustrating."
