San Salvador - El Salvador

On the way from Houston to Guatemala City our plane was redirected to San Salvador in El Salvador because the people in the control tower in Guatemala were on a strike. It ended up with us staying at a five star hotel in San Salvador, which wasn’t that bad.

To make a long story short, on the plane from Houston we met Pia from Denmark, and later in the airport in San Salvador we met Greg from United States. Day two in San Salvador we waited most of the day for a bus, there were to drive us to Guatemala City. We spend the time waiting with Pia and Greg and in late afternoon the bus still hasn’t arrived. Some people from Greg’s company phoned and said they were sending a private airplane to take him to Guatemala City. Greg off course agreed and asked if Pia, Dieter and I were interested in going with him. He did not have to ask twice… For sure we wanted to go with him! We took a taxi to a small a small airport outside San Salvador. We drove directly to the airplane gave our passports to one of the pilots and a custom inspector checked our bags. We boarded the plane and shortly after we were in the air. It’s quite a different feeling being with two pilots and three friends in an airplane without the usual hassle in an airport. You feel special. Especially when we arrive in Guatemala City, the plane taxis directly to a private hangar and we were welcomed with a red carpet. We got our own waiting room with a full fridge and a private bathroom. All we waited for was to get our passports stamped and our chauffeur arrived in a suburban to take us wherever we wanted to go.

Pia, Greg and me
