Wylie and Helene Kumbh Mela |
Take Me to the River
We've Reached the Sangam
The tractors have stopped. Babas are hopping off their chariots and everyone runs down to the water’s edge. Giant piles of shirts and pants self-manifest.
Surf's Up and Nectar's Falling
We leap into the water and bound out to where the three rivers converge. Everyone is ebullient and people are shouting with joy.
Plunge. Bubble, Bubble...
Cool water swirls around me as I touch the sandy bottom. Coming up for air I bow my head towards the rising sun. Thankful to be alive, thankful to be awake, thankful to be amidst so much joy and spiritual intention, thankful to be bathed in sunlight.
Plunge. Bubble, Bubble...
Thankful for the cool water, thankful to be at the Sangam. Thankful, thankful, thankful.
Again
Again I come up for air. Again I bow my head. I think of Helene and how thankful I am to be sharing our lives and loves together.
The sun embraces Jupiter and this morning the moon cradles Venus. Spring has come to India, but the great Kumbh is passing. Today is the last of the main bathing dates. In a few days we will scatter in the wind with the other pilgrims. Je ressors pour une bouffée d’air. Je me prosterne à nouveau.
Goodbye Forever?
Again I think of Helene and our final bath together. Perhaps it is today. One never knows.
Releasing life would be so much easier without her. Sweet. Sweet sensation. I will become. Again. Lâcher prise en la vie serait tellement plus facile sans elle. Douce. Douce sensation. Je redeviendrai. Encore.
