Rose early the next morning and drove to Pasadena to visit the Art Center. Accidentally got up at 6 instead of 7 because i forgot about the time change. I wondered why i felt like i was going to throw up or die! The girls were trying to kill each other between the front to back seat, fighting about some beauty product or hair ornament, while i drove east on the #10 freeway in the rush hour morning traffic and concentrated on trying to not have an accident. The air was horribly smoggy but we did see some deer grazing in the hills. The Art Center was big, scary, speedy, black and white. The students were doing expensive and risky things with power equipment. Many of them already had extensive experience in automotive design by the time they got there. Gina had an appointment to visit with someone who glanced at her portfolio for 15 minutes, disappointing. We did get to see some nice art exhibits.

Went downtown and walked for hours – Little Tokyo, Union Station, Olvera Street, Grand Central Market, Angels Flight, and the Bradbury Building which is exquisite.

Revisiting the past
People were very friendly, especially the panhandlers. Did you know that the building Superman jumped off from in the 50’s TV series (the Daily Planet Newspaper building) is actually the Los Angeles City Hall?

Cruised UCLA while the girls slept, but i made Gina wake up and look at a few things, the library, Royce Hall, Myra Hershey Hall (my old Spanish-style dorm), the Mathias Botanical Garden, and especially the sculpture garden – there is a Rodin and a Matisse, among others.
