Hirtshals - Denmark

The trawlers of Hirtshals

You feel the brisk cool wind at your face and the smell of the ocean blends in with the smell of fish.

When visiting the harbour of Hirtshals many thoughts and tales go through your head. Fishing is an old employment in Denmark and I can't help think of old men in waders and their yellow sou'westers pulling in their huge nets with tons of fish to return on shore with today’s catch.

The beauty of Hirtshals harbour

The butcher

In Norway the meet is very expensive and therefore the Norwegian flock to Denmark to buy our meet. And because Hirtshals is placed in the very northern part of Denmark it's only a short journey from Norway.

In Denmark the shops usual closes at 6 or 8 p.m. but The Butcher Winther don't close shortly before midnight and the shop is huge compared to an ordinary butcher in Denmark.
