In and Around Sydney
Sydney
This is the most popular picture of Sydney and we just couldn't resist. It is taken from on top of one of the Pylons of the bridge. There is a climb up there with interesting facts of the building of the bridge & great views of Sydney. A great way to start our time here!
This is another place that we couldn't resist. The gardens really are very well laid out with beautiful sculptures and indoor/outdoor sections. This was a lucky sighting for us along the paths.
After walking a little further on, we heard these terrible squeeling sounds. These sounds came from "flying foxes". They are fruit-eating bats the size of rugby balls. They really do look like the bat-signal against the evenng sky.
This is one of the oldest and largest Cathedrals in Australia. Stunning both inside & out. Kids were skateboarding just outside the front steps. This was a nice link between old & new; young & old, etc.
Blue Mountains
The Blue Mountains, just north of Sydney, are a beautiful vacation & tourist destination. These “Three Sisters” were frozen into rock when they defied their family & ran off with 3 men from a rival tribe (as aboriginal law explains). There were actual Seven Sisters 50 million years ago and many many years in the future there will be two and then one as erosion continues. We just really liked the view & the hikes!
Here we are at the canyon's edge.
The weather was quickly changing and we had stunning views with the clouds bringing in the storm!
Hunter Valley
These Alpacas were on a farm on the way out to the Hunter Valley. This is where we did more wine tasting & shopping! I am not sure why this is the only picture that we have (hic)?
Our friend Larry decided to drive the scenic way back. As you can see, here it really was scenic! Larry’s quick reflexes swerved the car around this python & Rick’s quick speed caught Lucky before he made it back to safety.
This close up revealed Lucky's special beauty.
Spit Junction, Sydney, Hike
Our last day in Sydney found us on a day hike around Spit junction. Rick picked us beautiful blackberries which we ate with Nobuko’s great homemade green tea ice cream - yum!
This pelican was just one of the wonderful sightings on our hike.
Back In Sydney
While is Sydney we were fortunate to be hosted by our friends Nobuko and Larry. Nobiko plays the didgeridoo, an aboriginal instrument made by termites in Australia. Needless to say, Rick gave it a go and will give concerts at home upon request!
