Rustic

After months of planning, the time had finally come for us to check out the Beran family cabin. Tina (a dear college friend of mine) had given us a very rough idea as to the cabin's location and ssured us that findind would be a bit of a treasure hunt. 2 to 3 miles and 2 to 3 hours later, we managed to find the friendly neighbors who held the key to the cabin. Leaving me behind for a quick rest, Jason went ahead to scout out our pending accommodations. The front gate was almost completely hidden by overgrown weeds, and there was no running water inside. Wrestling with the lure of a free place to stay and my nerosis over cleanliness, Jason decided the cabin was a bit more rustic than I could handle. Instead, we moved to Plan B - a pension in the area.

THANK YOU ANYWAY MR. BERAN AND TINA!!!!!

A Warm Welcome

We started our first day in Prague by attending Shabbat services at the Jerusalem Synagogue. Before being given the honor of an aliyah, Jason assisted some of the male members of the congregation in "fishing" from the balcony of the shul for one more male participant to make a minyan. As Jerry explained to us during kiddush, although there is a large number of Jewish visitors in Prague at any one time, very few take the time to attend services. We also mingled with other congregants, some from Germany, some Boston Bruin fans, but all drinking vodka and very strong brandy. It was refreshing to learn, however, that kosher red wine, no matter where you are in the world, TASTES HORRIBLE!!!

Some of Our Favorite Places and Activities

Leisurely stroll in Vysehrad (the 1st seat of Czech royalty); dinner along the Vltava river; chocalate filled crepes in the Old Town; walking tour of the Jewish Quarter; the Charles Bridge; and an evening at the State Opera to see "Carmen".
