Cape Tribulation
Cape Tribulation
With only a day to explore, we headed out quickly. We walked to the "lovely" Cape Tribulation and Myall beaches (no swimming due to jellyfish and sharks), stopped at the bat house to see the injured Speckled Flying Foxes that were being cared for, and walked the Duduji boardwalk.
We saw lots of wildlife, such as some orange-legged scrub fowl, tree snakes, Golden Orb spiders, and shield beetles. The next day, we walked down to Mason's swimming hole for a plunge in the crocodile-safe river (or so we were told). On the bus trip back to Cairns, we stopped for another plunge -- this time in the swirling waters at Mossman's Gorge.
Night walk
The night tours were all booked so we decided to do our own tour along the Duduji boardwalk, armed with a couple of flashlights, and joined by our Swedish friends Emma and Marie-Louise. Security in numbers as I would have been too chicken to do it on my own for certain. We spotted an amythestine python in one of the trees and heard lots of rustling in the trees from scrubfowl and feral pigs, presumably. We met some other night adventurers who had spotted a crocodile down by the beach
Ferntree Resort
Carolyn and I stayed at the lush Ferntree Resort, and generally had one of the beautiful pools to ourselves. At night, the rain poured down so hard for hours that it sounded like the roof was going to give in. Guess that's what makes it a rainforest.
