The Carmel Mission near Carmel, CA [on the Monterey peninsula] is one of the mission churches built by the colonizing Spaniards to provide safe shelter for those who traveled in early California. Below: the mission church.

The holly bush grows generously in the warm California climate. Those of us from Chicago have to pay a lot of money to get holly so beautiful for the Christmas decorations.
