St-Lucia to Kruger National Park

South Africa

St-Lucia, At The Beach

As we entered the subtropical coastline of Kwazulu-Natal, we found ourselves surrounded be a very rich wildlife as well as a myriad of Zulu villages. That is without counting the endless beaches and pristine reefs where some of the best diving and snorkelling can be done.

If a day at the beach is too borring for you, try one of their many game walks starting from the sea shore.

At The Game Reserve

Based in St-Lucia, we took advantage of a guided lake cruise to get a close look at the second greatest human killer in Africa: the hippopotamus. The first one being the malarial mosquitoe.

We went on a free 3 hour Safari walks and stalked wildebeest, zebras and impalas, while checking our backs for potential crocodile attacks...

Swaziland

Swaziland is a very small country with a population of less than one million people. This ex-British Protectorate(1906-1968) is more developed than Lesotho, and has outstanding sceneries with hiking opportunities as well as and game viewing.

Remember to keep some extra spending money for their wonderful weaving baskets.

Around Hippos

Staying in the Mililwane Wildlife Sanctuary got us closer to our best friends: the hippopotamus and the crocodiles.

At your door step, well marked trails guide you to some very special game viewing areas. That is if you don't step on any crocodile. Keep your eyes peeled, remain quiet and you are in for a fabulous time.

Kruger

After being droped off at one of the numerous Nelspruit's backpacker, we busied ourselves finding a safari tour into kruger. Our host informed us well about our many possibilities. We opted for a walking safari. We didn't regret it. We learned not only about wildlife but flora and birds as well. During the nights, we would wake up at the sound of hyenas and lions roaming around.

Kruger National Park is the biggest game park in South Africa and one of the best place to view wildlife. We learned that lions don't have it as easy as one might think. They need to hunt avery other day and work at it for hours. Their society is highly competitive and the cubs are threatened to die before reaching maturity from infratricide and/or malnourishment.
