Our Treehouse in Guatemala-Where It All Began

Casa Dulce Casa

This is where it all began . . . in our first home in Guatemala. This photo was taken by a friend who hiked up the hill to visit us the day after our wedding.

During our pre-trip planning we always had the question in the back of our mind, "Does our treehouse still stand? We put the exploration of that question high on our list of things to do.

Relaxing In The Treehouse

Our treehouse originally had just one room (where you see us sitting).

After we were married Steve added a second room to contain a barrel fireplace to take the chill out of the night air. The altitude is over 5,000 feet and the evenings could get nippy.

Our Preferred Relaxation Mode

On a clear day you can see the volcano "Fuego" in the background. This picture was taken at the beginning of the rainy season, so the afternoons were often overcast.

Our Treehouse Kitchen

What would I do without our travel Coleman stove? Many a meal was prepared on the ledge of the main window of the treehouse.

To the left you can see the beginning of the new addition of the second room.

One Last View

In the upper right-hand corner you can see the metal "lamina" that served as the ceiling. It was a common roofing material for many Guatemalan homes 30 years ago.

When it rained, it not only poured, but it did so very loudly as it bounced off the metal lamina!
