Le Jacaranda is a fabulous hotel. Located off the beaten track in a residential area, this 7 room hotel is surrounded by many different trees, the most prominent being the jacaranda. These grow to more than 100 feet and have magnificent purple flowers when in bloom.

The hotel also has a great restaurant and 2 resident artists that paint murals and canvas that's available for sale.

After a couple of relaxing days, Janet started feeling a bit under the weather - fever, chills, diarrhea, sore throat and general malaise. Despite taking prophylactic malaria medication, we were advised that these symptoms are not to be taken lightly and that Janet should be checked out.

Teddy, the restaurant manager, made Janet vegetable soup and arranged to drive us to the hospital the next day. Now the hospital scene was like out of a movie. There were a number of buildings, all painted white with teal blue walls. There were women with crying babies, people wearing different tribal garb, and quite a line up for the malaria test. With a little white lie, Hasani from the hotel was able to get us seen right away. The Physician, educated in Tanzania's University in the capital, Dar es Salaam, asked a few pointed questions, arranged for a blood test (a prick of the finger which confirmed NO PARASITES), and prescribed an antibiotic to treat a suspected protozoan infestation. The whole experience was very positive and professional.

After 2 days of treatment, Janet was good to go and we started on safari.
