Stranded in Darwin, Australia
Batten Down the Hatches, Here Comes Ingrid
This is the view from our window in Darwin, Australia where we spent an inordinate amount of time waiting for Cyclone Ingrid to pass the area. Our flight to Bali was originally delayed two days due to the holy holiday, Nyepi Day in Bali. Then we were delayed because of Ingrid!
Darwin was virtually flattened by a grade 4 cyclone, Tracy, in 1974 so they took this grade 5 cyclone very seriously. We were not able to do anything but wait as each time we were delayed, it was for 8-15 hours. Then our airline sold us to another airline and we finally left - 5 days later! Darwin actually was out of the cyclones path and all we experienced was a lot of rain & high winds. It did make for some excitement though & the last 2 days we were placed on the airline’s expense at a four star hotel with a very expensive restaurant! That made us really ready for our next adventure!
