Pantanal

Brazil

For three days Dieter and I went to Pantanal. Just across the Bolivian border we went on a "safari" with our very nice guide Brasil and Anders from Sweden. We went to "Japaru", where Brasil lived with his family and some people working on the farm.

Pantanal is a huge area covering about 230.000 sq. km. in both Brasil and Bolivia. Actually we wanted to see Pantanal on the Bolivian side, because it should be less destroyed from farming. But we’ve read a lot about different tours and trips of Pantanal in our guide-book, and many of them telling that you slept in a hammock during the night, and it’s just impossible for me to sleep in a hammock without getting hysterical just thinking of falling out when you turn over. When we got of the train in ........ , Bolivia, we went for a little walk to see if we could see any tour-companies with trips to Pantanal. We couldn´t see any and decided to cross the border to Corumbá, Brazil.

Besides from watching all kinds of animals; macaus, monkeys, alligators - Dieter and I also caught a lot of pirahnas.......... Nasty little teeth they have and some of them almost scream like a little baby when you have them on the hook - But they taste great!
