Christmas Aussie Style

Sunday - 23 Dec 2007
Cronulla , New South Wales - Australia

We arrived in Australia looking for a hot shower, warm bed and some yummy food - all of which was satisfied within 24 hrs of arrival. Anne's brother Neil and his wife Robin opened their house and we spent the holidays with them and our godson Callum. They took it upon themselves to show us around and made sure we put back on all the weight we lost in Nepal with some great meals. This included a Christmas day seafood brunch at their favorite seaside restaurant in Cronulla, 'Summer Salt'. YUM!

Although we weren't really in a travelling mindset over the holidays, we did manage to see and do loads of fun things - a trip to the Blue Mountains (just outside of Sydney), the Sydney Aquarium, some drinks at Scarborough Pub and a hike across the Spit Harbour Bridge. For New Years Eve day, Neil arranged a sailing trip around the Sydney Harbour on his boss' sailboat - very cool and then Anne and I made our way into the city for a yummy dinner in China town followed up with watching the fireworks in Darling Harbour. All in all quite a solid start to our Australian extravaganza and at an appropriately-Australian chilled out pace.

On the 4th of Jan we departed for Cairns - gatewary to the Great Barrier Reef. We really wanted to pack up Callum and take him with us. When we left we missed him (and his parents too).
