Ayutthaya: A Riding Trip

Thailand

We needed to leave BKK!

I got a phone call from Jib, my best friend, that she needed to run away from Bangkok to get some fresh air and more. Plus the film I gave to her would valid till 31st Jan and if we didn't use it, we would just waste it! So, 2 reasons were enough to convince us to wake up early on Sunday morning and hopped on the bus to the old capital city of Thailand 'Ayutthaya'. It took us 3 hours to arrive there (the ticket was 50s baht each). Oh and it's not only Jib and me, but Chula, our good friend from college joined us too...

Sunday 25 January, 2004

Ayutthaya, here we come!!! :) This province used to be the capital city of Thailand for 417 years before King Taksin moved everything to Thonburi and then Bangkok, the current capital city. It's amazing to see how they reserve old temples, ruins, palaces, etc. to be in good conditions. As soon as we arrived there, we decided to rent a bicycle for our sightseeing (50 baht each and we had to return it before 6pm). No, if you expected us to just go to the tourist attraction right away, you were wrong. What we simply first did there was eating! Right, it was almost noon and we'd better fill our stomach up before the big adventure ;) (since the bird flu was still serious there, it was frustrating to choose our food!). After lunch, our real journey started...

(Jib--white top, Chula--the hat girl, and me--being black!)

Ride for life!

"Where are we now?," this is our favorite question. I honestly admit that without Jib and Chula, I might still be finding ways to go back. We rode to many places and created our own shortcuts till we couldn't tell where we were on the map. Yes, I mean it! "Hey guys, wait for me too!," this was often said also as none of us wanted to be left alone in the middle of nowhere. 90% of tourists were foreigners from Japan and Europe and it made us wondering if Thais appreciated our historical sites at all. Anyway, it was almost 6pm and we still had no idea where we were. We took turn leading ways back to the shop we rented the bikes to make sure we would return it in time and to make sure we would have the bus back to Bangkok. We were pretty depressed as we had no energy left anymore after the long day. Fortunately, we got back to the shop before time (the owner said she was about to tell the police to look for us! ;) ). A few hours later, we arrived Bangkok safe and sound. Another good trip I must say! :)

P.S.

You can enjoy elephant trekking too!
